When the doctors took me inside the operation theater, I felt like it was an adventure because everything was new to me. Generally people fear getting operated but I was excited. I was waiting for my operation for so long because it was the only hope to get rid of my everyday pain.
The OT room was awesome and the lights were cool.
“It looks the same as in the movies”, I thought.
“It’ll hurt a little Reman.”, Dr. Purna said.
Then she injected anaesthesia on my lower back. The only painful part in an operation is getting injected with an anaesthesia. After getting injected 3-4 times, I couldn’t feel my legs anymore and the pain was gone.
My MSP(Microsoft Student Partner) friends called me Charles Xavier and at that time I really felt like him. I remembered the last scene of “Xmen : First Class” in which Charles Xavier says, “I can’t feel my legs”.
I was feeling sleepy but one doctor kept talking to me. He asked me lots of questions about my accident. Maybe he was checking how conscious I was.
After he was done with his questions, I closed my eyes but after some time he came back.
“Do you have a girlfriend?”
For even a minute I didn’t feel I was in an operation theatre. It was a funny moment.
“No, I don’t.”, I replied and finally, I was allowed to sleep.
I don’t know what happened in between but when I opened my eyes, I felt like I was inside water. Everything was blurry. I knew it was due to anaesthesia so I concentrated on my vision for a while and after sometime, I could see a bit more clearly. My left hand and shoulder was hurting as it was being pressed the entire time. The doctors were operating on my right leg making my left side face down.
Purna didi frequently checked on me to see if I am alright. I informed her about the pain on my left hand and she told me to wait because the doctors were still operating on my right leg.
I could see the x-rays of my leg on the walls, I guess it was on a screen.
Later the doctors changed my position and I was lying on my back. The left side of my body was relieved from the pain at last.
“He’s going pale.”, One of the doctors said, checking my eyes.
I don’t remember what happened after that but when I opened my eyes Dr. Bulanda Thapa was telling other doctors to clean my wounds. After sometime, Dr. Bulanda was stitching the wound on my thigh. I could feel it very well.
When Purna didi came to check on me again, I told her that I was feeling the stitches.
“Is it hurting? She asked.
“I can feel it but it’s not hurting.”
“If it’s not hurting, it’s Ok!”
In the end, I remember Dr. Rishi telling me that it will be difficult for them to take the rod out later from my leg. During the operation, Dr. Rishi had tried to drill my bone, the tip of the drill machine broke deep into my hip bone. He was referring to that, but at that time, I thought it was the rod that was placed in my femur to fix it. He was my hope, therefore I trusted him fully.
I guess the operation was four hours long. It was a little funny, a little painful and overall it was a memorable moment.
I am recovering now and I am happy to be with all of you today. I am thankful to my rescuers, my parents, relatives, friends, sisters, brothers, everyone who prayed for my life, the volunteers, Nimita, Abisha and everyone there. I am thankful to Dr. Bulanda and his entire team, Dr. Rishi, Dr. Roshan, Dr. Ramesh, Dr. Purna didi. Thank you Manita didi, Smita didi, Rachana didi for making me feel like home. I will miss all of you. I have missed out some people here because I don’t know their names. Anyways, I just want to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.
